Parfum d'Empire - Ambre Russe
added: 2011-12-04, author: Kola256

Fragrances created by Corsican perfumer Marc Antoine Corticchiato pay homage to various important historical figures and events. Stories behind each scent are fascinating and thanks to them we can better appreciate the artistry and message that's behind each composition.

Ambre Russe honors the last of the Romanov tsar family. Imagine a ball cout in winter, with music, champagne and fires fired with luscious forest wood. Imagine a samovar with tea of a finest clarity and smell. Finally imagine an Orthodox church with wooden walls scented with incense. That's the smell of dignified Russia late nineteenth and early twentieth century and same Ambre Russe smells.

Parfum d'Empire Ambre Russe is a chypre - leather composition that's using all the best that the Russian Empire can offer. And when we think about Russia, what comes to mind first? Come on, it's simple. No, not beautiful women... I meant alcohol. Of course not alcoholic scent of spirits, that is typical for all fragrances, but alcohol of a higher sort. An intensive smell of "warm" incense, which dominates the composition, is complemented by an explosive mix of vodka and rum, followed by a smell of fine, strong, black tea. An addition to the top aroma are dried fruits, among which, perhaps deceptively, I've found dried plum. The entire composition is placed in a sweet, honey coating, which fades after some time, causing the smell to be more ambery and incense, less sweet and with clear smell of fine rum. The whole composition falls very positive, fragrance is elegant and connote with it's monarchical story.

I hate pigeonholing fragrances, but Ambre Russe is definitely not designed for youngsters. It's a fragrance for an elegant, sophisticated and self-confident mature woman. Although described as unisex, for me it's rather a female fragrance, with great longevity on skin of 8 to 12 hours. I'd classify it as a year-long composition with emphasis on autumn.

In conclusion, Ambre Russe is a polished fragrance with it's own charm and character, perfect for an elegant woman. What is important, it fits it's story of royal court of the last of the Romanov family. It's a niche fragrance that is worth it's price, so if you like ambery fragrances with warm incense, alcoholic notes, or dried fruits, you should give Ambre Russe a go.
